The iPad and most tablet devices are essentially a lean back, very relaxed experience and therefore we need to consider this when designing for a tablet experience. Good finger affordances, good use of space, clear and large typography, simple gestures all add to making the experience not only easy but more engaging for the reader.
When designing your publication consider the amount of elements used throughout your publication and by elements we mean buttons and graphic furniture used on the page. Less is more is most often the best approach to take but also use them with consistency but allow them to compliment the content rather than compete with.
Consider good use of space as a key to a more calmer and richer experience on tablet devices. Let the content be front and centre and drive your readers journey rather than have them fight through the visual noise of graphics and user interface elements. Clarity of content will always beat density.
Consider every element on the screen and it’s relationship to the reader and how it will effect their experience.
